teaching
mia has over 17 years of teaching experience, specializing in contemporary and improvisation. Although they have been teaching since 2008, in 2015 mia began to hone in on creating space for all-bodies-welcome, no-experience-necessary, beginner contemporary classes. During the pandemic, mia became more active in decolonization work participating in an 8-week decolonizing dance program alongside consciousness and embodiment workshops. They have taught a diverse range of students, LGBTQAI+ folx, BIPOC artists, children with special needs, neurodivergent adults, pregnant folx, people in wheelchairs, people experiencing houselessness, alongside training pre-professional dancers. mia continues to provide mentorship, consultation, and guidance for her students pursuing dance as a career. mia received a BA in Dance from the World Arts and Cultures department at UCLA in 2014, and a MFA in Dance from UCI in 2025.
They are currently a Teaching Artist for Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ Cassin Promise program teaching traditionally underserved communities, V&T Academy of Dance teaching pre-professional youth, and at Irvine Valley College.
